About Kim

Kim's performances have mesmerized audiences throughout the southeast for more than 18 years. She performs in period correct attire ranging from the Regency era to the Roaring 20’s. Some performances include authentic displays and a pictorial history of items. Her novel, Truer Words, was published and released nationwide by Tate Publishing in May of 2012. She appeared in the Robert Redford movie, The Conspirator, as Mrs. Stanton the wife of Secretary of War Stanton played by Kevin Kline. Other accomplishments include portraying the wife of the villainous plantation owner in Jude Deveraux’ novella Promises available on Vook. Truer Words-A Novel and Storytelling Event

Truer Words is a novel about loyalty, love, tragedy, and doing the right thing no matter the circumstances. Set in the beautiful and romantic Lowcountry of South Carolina during the Victorian era, Truer Words transports audiences to a simpler more genteel time. Emma Victoria Brown is born to priveledge in a family with a dangerous secret that could cost them their very lives.

Watch the novel come to life as author, Kim Poovey, portrays Emma in period attire. Kim is available for questions and book signings following the performance.

Kim's Wardrobe

Kim was blessed with an amazingly talented friend, Christine Lanning, who created her gowns for reenacting, performances, and filming for Vook and the movie The Conspirator. Two summers ago Christine taught Kim how to sew and since that time Kim has created several period gowns ranging from the 1860s to the 1880s. Kim has an extensive collection of period photographs, hats, parasols, capes/shawls, and mourning pieces. All of this brings together an atmosphere of history and beauty transporting audiences back to a simpler time and place.
